What is a resistor? and how does it works :

What is a resistor?

Resistor is an electronic device to control the flow of current.  Resistor in Hindi means barrier i.e. one who hinders and hinders.

It is an important part of an electronic device.  A resistor creates a barrier in the flow of electricity in the device and maintains control.

Resistors come in more or less value.  A lower value resistor causes less obstruction to the flow of current but a higher value resistor is capable of causing more obstruction to the flow of current.

The value of the resistor is measured in OHM.  OHM works to measure electrical resistance.

How is a resistor manufactured?

Resistor is made from carbon mixture and insulating material.  The resistor is made by using the resistant material carbon in the middle of a power conductor wire.  Resistors may look the same from outside but their structure may be different from inside.

The thinner the copper wire or the more turns used in the resistor, the higher the resistance.

 How does resistors work?

Friends, Resistor is made of carbon in the middle of an electrical wire.  This filled substance in the middle of the wire creates obstruction in the flow of electricity in the wire.  Due to which the ability to flow electricity reduces.

Let us tell you that a resistor is required to know the value of resistance from electric circuits.  The copper mat…

Types of Resistor :

There are many types of resistors.  These can be of different designs, sizes, and materials.  Here we will learn about all the types of resistors.  Following are the main types of resistors.

 Linear Resistor

Linear Resistors are such resistors whose value changes with voltage and temperature.  There are also two types of Linear Resistors.

 A.Fixed Resistor

 B. Variable Resistor

 A.Fixed Resistor

As you must have understood from its name.  Fixed Resistor means such resistors which have a fixed resistance value and cannot be changed.  Fixed resistors are mainly of the following types.

 1. Carbon Composition Resistors :

Carbon composition resistors are made of graphite, granulated carbon or powdered carbon.  In this, a rod shaped in…

B. Variable Resistor

Variable Resistors are such resistors in which the resistance value can be changed.  In such resistors, there is an option to change the value.  Variable Resistors are of the following types.

 1. Potentiometers

These are devices with three tunnels, which are used to control the voltage in the circuit.  To change the value in this resistor, the wiper has to be rotated which is connected to the control shaft.  The value of these resistors can be up to 10 Mega Ohms.

 2. Trimmer :

Trimmer Resistors are made of carbon composition, wire material and ceramic.  The value of this type of resistors can range from 50 Ohms to 5 Mega Ohms.  An additional screw is provided in these, by rotating which the resistance value can be changed.

 3. Rheostats ;

Rheostats Resistors are also known as tapped resistors and variable wire resistors.  These resistors have two and three tunnels.

 Non-Linear Resistor

Non Linear Resistors are such resistors in which the change in current flow occurs due to change in temperature or applied voltage.  Nonlinear Resistors can be of the following types.

 1. Thermistors

 2. Varistors

 3. Photo Resistors

Uses of Resistor :

The main use of resistors is to control the flow of electricity in any device.  Resistors can be used for many other purposes.  Let us know what can be the uses of resistors.

Use of Resistors in Circuit Function :

Resistor is used to control current flow in the circuit.  By using a resistor in the circuit, the speed of the motor in the electronic device and the sound of the speaker can also be increased or decreased.

Use of resistor for voltage drop and control :

Many times it happens that the voltage supplied to the equipment exceeds its capacity.  In such a situation, the resistor present in the device drops the voltage and drops it to a safe level.

Resistor in LED and Transistor :

Excessive current flow in LEDs and transistors can be dangerous.  In such a situation, when LEDs and transistors are used in the equipment, a resistor is also installed so that the voltage remains at a safe level.
