 What is LED ?

The full name of LED is “Light Emitting Diode”. It is a type of semiconductor device which emits light when it receives electric current.  Light is used in various types of electronic devices such as traffic lights, remotes, indicator displays, digital clocks, etc.  Today, LED is considered to be the most popular appliance because it lasts longer than others, also reduces electricity consumption and is available in many colors and designs.

History of LED :

 The history of LED lighting began in the early 20th century, when H.J.  Round heralded electroluminescence.  But the real progressive step was taken by Nick Holonik Jr. in 1962.  Developed the visible spectrum LED.  Subsequently, in the 1990s Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura developed blue LEDs using gallium nitride (GaN), which helped produce white light.  This success led to the advancement of LED technology and today LED lights are used in many areas with low power consumption.

Types of LED :

 By now you have learned what LED is.  Many types of LEDs are manufactured depending on the utility.  Some major types of LEDs can be seen below.

 LED Strips: This type of LED is made by combining several LEDs into one flexible strip.

 Smart LEDs: Using these types of LEDs, users can manage the color brightness, brightness and other parameters of the smartphone or smart home system.

 Miniature LEDs: These are very small LEDs that are used in electronic devices such as wearables, smartwatches and indicators.

LED symbol : The LED symbol is similar to a standard diode with two arrows pointing outwards to indicate light emission.
